Law changes: U13 → U14 (RFU Regulation 15)

Our squad is moving up from U13 into U14. Per RFU Regulation 15 (Appendix 7 – U13, Appendix 8 – U14), several things change at once this season, and most of them add contact/skill demands the players haven't faced before. These should shape early coaching priorities:

Coaching implication: two of these changes (contested 8-man scrum, and lineouts existing at all) are genuinely brand new to every player in the squad this year, not a step up from something they already do. Given our smaller players and the contact-load note in claude.html, it's worth treating lineout fundamentals and scrum shape/safety in the bigger pack as explicit early priorities in the first 6-week block, taught whole–part–whole like any other closed skill, rather than assuming they'll pick it up incidentally through games.

Sourced from RFU Regulation 15 Appendix 7 (U13) and Appendix 8 (U14). The englandrugby.com pages blocked direct automated fetching, so this was compiled from mirrored copies of the same regulation text (a club-hosted PDF of Appendix 8, and a club summary of Appendix 7) — worth a quick cross-check against the current englandrugby.com pages directly, since age-grade regulations are reviewed each season. One other secondary source (a "regulations grid" PDF) gave conflicting figures for U13/U14 pitch size and player numbers; the figures above are the two sources that agreed with each other and matched the actual regulation wording, so that grid was not used.

Lineout laws (U14 — uncontested, no lift)

Lineouts don't exist below U14 (U13 and Boys/Girls U12-and-below play no lineout at all). This is the age-grade progression per the RFU's "Introduction of the Lineout to Age Grade Rugby" guidance (see Lineout FAQ.pdf in the club Drive):

Age group Lineout format
U13 and below No lineout
U14 (us) Uncontested, no lift — focus is the throw, timing/positioning to receive, and catch/delivery. No jumping/lifting technique needed since nobody is lifted.
U15 (boys) Uncontested, lift permitted
U16+ Fully contested

So for our squad this year the lineout is a brand-new skill, and it stays non-contested and non-lifted all season — the coaching job is throw accuracy, timing/positioning to receive the ball, and clean catch-and-deliver, not competing for the ball and not jump/lift technique (that only comes in at U15+).
