Draft — work in progress. This run-sheet is not finished and will change before the session. Don't print it or hand it round yet; check back for the final version.
| Date/Time | Thu 10 Sep 2026, 7:00 – 8:00pm (60 min) |
| Location | TWGSB 4G — a third of a pitch (see claude.html). Not a club pitch, so there is no pitch allocation for it. |
| Coaches | (fill in on the night) |
| Attendance | (fill in on the night — expect fewer than Sunday; full turnout is not the norm on a Thursday) |
| Session objective | Passing as the week's core skill. Reinforce Sunday's lineout positioning at a lighter, non-contested level, keep the hooker throw ticking over, and put line-org and the Bang blitz trigger into a tight-space game. |
| Resources required | Balls, bibs, cones, poles, ruck shields. All of it has to travel — nothing lives at TWGSB. |
| Start + duration | Activity | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| +0, 5 min | Player-led warm-up | The standard four-phase warm-up in lines, finishing on the pads (see warmup.html) |
| +5, 10 min | Essential skills — passing (Crazy Passing) | The week's core skill; handling under a rising awareness demand |
| +15, 5 min | Whole-group intervention: lineout positioning recap | Where to stand, 5m/15m, uncontested — reinforcing Sunday (see laws.html) |
| +20, 22 min | Main game: narrow touch, lineout restarts | Line-speed and line-org in a tight channel; Bang introduced as the trigger |
| +20, 22 min (parallel pull-out) | Hooker throw-in (hookers) | Throw to a marked 5-man line — the Week 2 step up from Sunday's crossbar work |
| +42, 2 min | Contact warm-up | Whole squad, before the contact finish — get low, pummelling, Wrist Wrestle (see claude.html) |
| +44, 11 min | Main game continues — full contact | The last ~10 min at contact, per the Thursday rule (see claude.html) |
| +55, 5 min | Cool-down / close | Recap the Bang call and line-org cues; set up Sunday |
Sixty minutes is the whole slot, so it includes getting on and off the 4G. If the changeover eats into it, take it out of the touch phase of the main game — not out of the contact warm-up, and not out of the contact finish, which is where the week's defence work actually gets tested.
Coaching Points: elbow up, hands out, catch early; call for it before it comes. Once the second ball goes in, the demand is awareness — knowing where both balls are without stopping to look.
Setup: see activities.html. Players in three lines (A, B, C), spaced for passing. In a third of a pitch, run two separate sets rather than one long one.
Description: the ball zig-zags down the lines, each player filling in behind the line they passed to. Add a second ball once the basic pattern is running cleanly — that is the point of the drill, not an optional extra.
Progressions:
Adaptations:
Coaching Points: the same content as Sunday, not new material: where each player stands, the 5m and 15m lines, uncontested — no jumping or lifting (see laws.html).
Setup: whole squad, cones marking 5m and 15m.
Description: a short (3–4 min) recap. Sunday was the first exposure; this is the second look, and it should be visibly quicker than Sunday's. Get them setting up the line themselves rather than being placed — if they can form it without being told, the point has landed.
Coaching Points: line-speed off the Bang call; spacing and numbering up; the shuffling retreat; talk. In a narrow channel, defence should be winning more than it did on Sunday — that is the space doing the coaching.
Setup: small-sided, in a narrow channel across the third of a pitch. Wide attacking patterns need Sunday's space; this is deliberately tight, which suits line-speed and forces quick hands over long ones.
Description: the same game as Sunday, restarting each phase from an uncontested lineout throw — returning to it a second time is the point, with the constraints tightened rather than the game replaced. Defence scores for line-speed; attack scores a bonus for a clean lineout catch leading to a try.
Progressions:
playbook.html) — this is its first outing, so expect to stop the game to reset it a few times.Adaptations:
Coaching Points: the same cues as Sunday — consistent routine, ball back behind the head, both hands, step into it, follow through pointing at the target.
Setup: hookers peel off with a coach. Mark a 5-man line with cones and use a receiver at the front, middle and back.
Description: the step up from Sunday's Cross-Bar Challenge (see activities.html) — a real target at a real position rather than the bar. If our third of the 4G happens to include the posts, run the Cross-Bar Challenge again first as the warm-up for it; if not, two poles at bar height make a serviceable substitute.
Progressions:
Coaching Points: as Sunday — chest up, back flat, head to the side, hips low in the pummel; low base and moving feet in Wrist Wrestle.
Setup: pairs, matched by size. No equipment. Runs on the spot wherever the game has ended up — no need to reset the pitch for it.
Description: the standard two minutes (see claude.html): get low (~30s), pummelling on knees (~45s), Wrist Wrestle standing (~45s). Second outing, so it should need a reminder rather than a demo — if it still needs a full demo, that is worth knowing before Week 2.
Same non-negotiable rules: no lifting, takedowns or neck twisting in the pummel; shoulder or upper arm only in Wrist Wrestle, never the head; stop when a grip goes. Anyone who would rather not play the slapping game pummels again.
